A significant milestone was achieved on 29 January 2026, with the official visit of the Australian Minister for Home Affairs, H.E. Tony Burke MP. This visit reaffirmed Australia’s steadfast commitment to JCLEC and underscored the enduring strategic partnership between Australia and Indonesia in advancing regional security.

During the mission, Minister Burke engaged with JCLEC Management and senior representatives from the governments of Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and Canada. This meeting highlighted the multilateral cooperation facilitated by the Centre. Key highlights of the program included:

Launch of the KERIS Facility: The official opening of the upgraded KERIS immersive training facility, a project jointly sponsored by the Australian and UK Governments to enhance real-world law enforcement simulations.
Strategic Outreach: Participation in a dedicated podcast session and a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, representing the sustainable growth of the bilateral partnership.

Operational Overview: A comprehensive tour of the JCLEC campus, showcasing the Centre’s advanced training capabilities as a regional hub for counter-terrorism and transnational crime prevention.

This visit coincides with JCLEC’s 21st anniversary, celebrating two decades of trust, shared responsibility, and institutional excellence. Since its inauguration in 2004, the Australia–JCLEC partnership has been instrumental in fostering professional capacity and driving collective responses to evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.

Furthermore, this engagement builds upon a year of intensified diplomatic activity throughout 2025. These milestones included institutional engagements in Surabaya and Canberra, participation by senior Australian Federal Police leadership in the IMOSC XVIII Program, and high-level visits from H.E. Rod Brazier and JCLEC co-founder Assistant Commissioner Peter Crozier.

Together, these initiatives reflect our shared commitment to a safer, more resilient region, guided by the JCLEC principle of “Learning and Understanding Through Shared Experience.
